According to Eurostat, Poland spends more than 2% of its gross domestic product on sustainable development and environmental protection. This percentage is higher than in several European countries, including Portugal, Germany, and Finland.
But why is it essential for governments to provide green funding? First, it supports the implementation of sustainable practices, promoting ethical use of natural resources. Second, financial institutions that provide green grants and loans usually offer expert advice and professional help along with the money. This is an opportunity for businesses to optimize their workflow and increase profits. Finally, sustainable business development enhances the country's investment appeal and drives economic growth.
Today, we are exploring green business funding opportunities in Poland. For more information, read our articles about other countries: the UK, Ireland, Spain, Italy, the USA, and France.
Green Grants in Poland
Grants are non-refundable funding provided for a specific project. When receiving a grant, you must spend the money responsibly and report regularly on your progress in achieving the set goal.
If you are starting your green journey, grants are a great option. Even small businesses can apply, and you are not obliged to return the funds. We have collected several sustainable initiatives that support local companies in Poland and are suitable for used device businesses.
PAIH Grants
The Polish Investment and Trade Agency (or PAIH in Polish) is a governmental organization that attracts foreign investments to Poland, promotes local development, and facilitates international cooperation. PAIH helps foreigners invest in projects that benefit the Polish economy and society.
Businesses receive PAIH funding for various purposes, including purchasing technological innovations and focusing on the circular economy. Implementing robotic device processing in your workflow can be part of your project, aligning with both sustainable and technological development goals.
FENG Grants
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can apply for green grants provided by the European Funds for Modern Economy (FENG). The program helps businesses implement green practices and supports them in digital transformation and reaching carbon neutrality.
It is an opportunity to make your business more innovative and efficient. The program will be active until 2027, and its funding allocation is EUR 10 billion.
NPR Grants
The National Recovery Plan (NRP) is part of a broader European Union initiative, the NextGenerationEU plan, aimed at reducing the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy. The program invests in several areas: economic resilience, digital transformation, healthcare, intelligent mobility, and diversification of energy sources.
SMEs can apply for the innovation implementation initiative and receive financial support up to 100% of eligible costs.
Green Loans in Poland
Unlike grants, loans must be repaid and usually provided by banks rather than by governmental organizations. Sustainable loans for small businesses often have better terms, such as lower interest rates.
When choosing a green loan, the first step is examining conditions offered by banks. However, there is no need to limit yourself to those options. We have collected a list of loans from various governmental organizations to offer you a broader range of financing opportunities.
ARP Loans
Agencja Rozwoju Przemysłu (ARP) is a joint-stock company that belongs to the State Treasury of Poland. ARP provides loans for enterprises, including multi-purpose loans for SMEs. The funds can be spent on implementing innovative equipment, replenishing working capital, contract financing, etc.
The conditions require a minimum loan amount of EUR 186,000 with an expected contribution of 20%. Additionally, the company's gross annual revenues need to be more than EUR 932,000.
BGK Loans
The National Development Bank (or BGK in Polish) is the only state-owned bank in the country. It provides numerous financial services for enterprises of various sizes, including business grants and loans tailored to promote eco-friendly projects and innovations. With the support of BGK and EU funds, you can start and continue your company's sustainable development.
